CE marking pumps

Depending on how pumps are driven and where they are used they could come within the scope of any combination of the following directives: Machinery, Low Voltage, EMC or ATEX Directives. To eliminate any doubts, which can result in wasted time and effort in building the contents of your Technical File, consider the following:

All pumps and gasoline engines come within the scope of the Machinery Directive.

Pumps powered by properly grounded AC motors come under the Machinery and Low Voltage Directives if they operate in the range 50 to V AC.

Pumps powered by DC brush type motors or motors driven by inverters operating in the voltage range 75 to 1500 V DC and gasoline engines come under the Machinery, Low Voltage and EMC Directives. Pumps powered by DC motors that operate at voltages below 75 V DC come under the Machinery and EMC Directives.

Pumps driven by either AC or DC motors intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres will come within the scope of the combinations of Directives described above and the ATEX Directive. Pumps powered by gasoline engines are unlikely to be permitted in areas where there are potentially explosive atmospheres and fully protected diesel engines are normally used as an alternative.
