Immersed Water Pump With Immersible Pump

Introduction to Immersible Water Pumps

Immersible water pumps are cost-effective, flood-proof pumps designed for dry environments. They are mounted in a vertical position with the motor above the fluid and the end of the pump extended below the fluid level.

An immersible pump means that the pump itself is immersed in the pumped liquid. They are typically mounted on top of or inside tanks or containers. Immersible pumps are often used in the machine tool industry for example, in spark machine tools, grinding machines, machining centers and cooling units or in other industrial applications involving tanks or containers.

Difference Between Immersible Water Pumps and Submersible Water Pumps

Despite the similar names, these are actually two different types of pumps that often confuse people. Submersible water pumps are generally used for water and sewage pumping applications. Their compact design and dimension with integral float switches make them ideal for home use as well. However, since they have standard carbon and ceramic mechanical seals and limited material options (typically cast iron or lower grade stainless steel), submersible water pumps are incapable of submerging into anything other than water, they are unsuitable for aggressive liquids.

On the other hand, immersible water pumps are designed and manufactured specifically for use in aggressive and corrosive fluids. To allow this, they are generally made in a range of materials from stainless steel up to engineered plastics, such as polypropylene and PVDF. Since the motor of an immersible water pump is above the liquid level, it can be supplied in a specialized environment. Column lengths up to six meters can be supplied and even with shorter lengths, provided that the impeller is flooded at startup the pump can still pump down to six meters.

Vertical Immersion Pumps & Cantilever Vertical Shaft Pumps

Vertical immersion pumps are essentially vertically immersed centrifugal pumps where the motor is separated from the pump by a long shaft. For this reason, they are commonly referred to as vertical shaft pumps or vertical column pumps. Whereas with a submersible pump the whole assembly is immersed into the fluid, with a vertical cantilever pump the electric motor is located above the fluid and is connected via the vertical shaft to the pump impellers which are immersed into the fluid. Vertically immersed shaft pumps are the ideal solution when needing to pump from a sump, underground well, a reservoir or tank, which is why they are also known as sump pumps. Their ability to handle high temperature and flammable liquids make column pumps a popular solution when a traditional submersible pump cannot be used.

An immersible top tank solution

The e-SVI is specially designed to be mounted on the top of a tank, with the pump unit immersed in the liquid to be pumped. The length of the immersed pump unit can vary, depending on the solution your application requires.
